We all know there have been some issues with claiming the airdrop through Tari Universe. Quite often it takes clicking the claim button multiple times before it actually works. On some occasions I have needed to clear the browser cache, close and reopen the app, or try again later before the claim successfully registers.
I onboarded a couple of friends to Tari mining who have been clicking the claim button each month, believing they had successfully claimed, only to now find that their claims have apparently not registered for roughly the past six months.
Those who are active in the Telegram channels have probably seen these issues discussed and picked up some of the workarounds people use to make sure claims go through. But I do not think it is reasonable to expect everyone participating in the airdrop to also be active on Telegram to receive that information. As far as I am aware, these issues and the suggested workarounds have not been communicated more broadly by email or through another channel that would reach everyone.
Given that, I think it would be unfair for people to permanently lose previously allocated tokens because of known technical issues with the claiming process, particularly where those issues were not widely communicated.
I would like to propose a temporary catch up window where users can claim any previously allocated airdrop tokens that they missed, or that failed to register correctly, in earlier months.
What are the Council’s thoughts on allowing a one time catch up period for missed historical claims?
I think Tari Labs was always helpful to people if they asked about the claim etc. for people that didn’t reach out simply didn’t care. Airdrop is not an entitlement, it is a privilege.
On the flipside, Having this window might bring back some OG holders back and make them active.
Tari Universe was advertised as mining software that anyone could use, and a big part of the vision was onboarding people who were completely new to crypto. A lot of people did exactly that, including friends and family who would never otherwise have touched a mining app.
The issue here is not simply that people forgot to claim. In many cases the claim process appeared to work. It showed the success screen, showed the amount claimed, and gave every indication that it had completed successfully, yet the tokens still never landed in the wallet.
For me, that is where the reality falls short of the original onboarding vision. It was already questionable to require people to manually claim every month. Having that monthly claim tell someone it succeeded when it actually did not is much worse. If someone gave Tari a chance, mined for months, thought they had claimed successfully, and then later discovered they had lost those rewards, that is more likely to leave a bad taste than turn them into a long term supporter.
I do agree with your other point too. A catch up window could bring some OG users back at exactly the time Tari could benefit from more social and vocal support.
I think there is a real opportunity here to email everyone who participated and invite them back to claim any months they missed, perhaps with a simple eligibility condition such as having successfully claimed at least once previously. That turns a frustrating experience into a positive re engagement opportunity rather than simply writing those users off.
I think the best solution now would be to give them a chance to claim there airdrop on ootle mainnet as TARI and not XTM. This would bootstrap some liquidity on Ootle.
+1 on a catch-up window, but scoped to cases that can be checked. If Universe showed a success screen and the claim never landed, the mining activity behind those months should still be on record. Limiting the window to addresses with provable mining history for the missed months keeps it fair to people who claimed correctly and stops it from becoming a free-for-all. Paying it out as TARI on Ootle, as 0xhra suggested, would also bring those users onto the new network.
I don’t agree with limiting it to people who continued mining through the missed months. The whole point of the airdrop was to reward people who mined before mainnet launch. If someone earned those rewards through eligible pre mainnet mining, a failed or misleading claim process shouldn’t erase that entitlement.
i personally didnt bump into any problem with claims and any issue was addressed quickly after raising a ticket … kinda unfair on everyone else that showed up and continued engaging … but i also support more hodlers .. my 2 cent
My understanding is that reimbursements will just get stuck in an endless processing loop. The situation I’ve seen is that some users clearly know the rules—that our airdrop vests over 12 tranches and has to be claimed at the start of each month. But since Tari’s price is currently pretty low, they either just give up trying or couldn’t care less. If it were $1 or $10 a piece, bet they’d move heaven and earth to claim it or reach out to the team for help.
I was one of the supporters and miners pre-mainnet, alongside Agent Chud (Messi) and others. I was pretty high on the leaderboard. Ive also claimed a few initial airdrops but then due to certain (bad) circumstances, stopped claiming as i was completely off sync with all the crypto stuff (not by choice). The fact that I am now unable to claim those tokens somehow, even though I have spent a few tens of thousands of dollars on mining them (and theyre worth cents on the dollar here), is a pretty bad way of “rewarding” early supporters. Its why i cant bring myself to participate in this community anymore, since, even though (most) knew the rules about airdrop, it is pretty evident many missed/forgot them. And not all just because the project isnt doing good price wise, theres also other reasons and as I see above, bugs.
I think Tari should rethink this as they will likely be losing a lot of the early supporters, including myself, if this doesnt somehow get resolved in a positive manner for everyone that missed.
And before someone goes and says it - yes it would be pretty simple for me to just buy them since its not a lot of money (anymore), but thats not the point of this. Its a simple does Tari support early supporters still, or not. If not, I will definitely not participate in anything Tari anymore. Not because i dont like the tech, but because i dont like the lack gratitude to early supporters (which are all down a hefty amount of money if they rented the hardware, but i see many still want to/are supporting).
I genuinely appreciate what you did for Tari in the early days, especially when the project was much smaller and support from early miners mattered a lot.
That said, I think there’s a difference between raising a legitimate concern about missed airdrops and making continued participation in the community conditional on getting those tokens back.
The way this is written comes across a bit like: “If this isn’t resolved in the way I want, I’m leaving and won’t support Tari anymore.” Whether intentional or not, that feels more like pressure than constructive feedback.
I completely understand that people can have legitimate reasons for missing claims, and if there are genuine bugs or edge cases, those absolutely deserve to be investigated. Early contributors should also be treated with respect and gratitude.
But the project also had clearly communicated rules around the airdrops, and reopening them retroactively creates its own set of fairness issues for everyone who followed those rules.
I think it’s fair to ask Tari to review exceptional cases. I just don’t think continued support should be presented as something Tari has to earn by retroactively restoring missed allocations.
You can disagree with how Tari handles it, of course. But I’d rather see this discussed as a governance/community issue than framed as a condition for whether someone continues supporting the project.
Honestly, if this was you, would you still support the project? I dont think so. Its perfectly normal to not support something that does not support you back (besides losing a shit ton of money). You might call it pressure, i call it constructive feedback though. Respect and support should go both ways, not just Tari getting it and not giving back in return to those who missed the claims for legit reasons.
I also did raise this with the team on discord but they said they cant do anything because its up to community (foundation), so the only way is for them to decide via council. Hence these posts here i assume.
They can go case by case yeah, but how will they review them.. will they ask me for a death certificate or what?? I dont think that will work so its either a chance for everyone or no one. (hard to prove a bug as well.. although i do think my last claim from yesterday isnt logged either..)
EDIT: yes i claimed yesterday and theres no reward tx for the claim and ive reset the app but i still cant trigger the claim again…
Airdrop catch-up window: monthly claims reward recurring attention and expired tokens go to the community fund, but Naveen is open to the forum discussion.
The Tari Show is overnight for me and I can’t find a recording of this discussion for the full context of what was said, but issues I have with this whole process is that:
…in my friends’ cases, they had recurring attention, but were failed by Tari Universe telling them their claims were successful.
…it was initially described as a reward for testnet compute like that provided by @mindstyle, so it doesn’t surprise me that the bait and switch is not seen positively.
nothing.. the token is already down A LOT and i presume most that mined it had high costs so they would rather hold it and hope the ecosystem picks up (at least thats what i plan to do, my 5 fig here is now worth barely 4fig i believe, if that)
