CC Nomination: Fox

I am nominating @Fox for the Core Contributor program as a Code CC.

In addition to being an active and essential council member, Fox is a talented engineer that has been instrumental in various code and infrastructure related proposals.

He helped establish these forums, as well as the wiki. He took the lead on revamping our RFCs into the new TIP process, and established the Core Contributor program which has just been approved by the council. In addition to that he has been actively contributing to updates for the Tari website, helping with the development of community templates on the Ootle, and assisting with the review of other consensus-related issues like the ongoing difficulty adjustment.

If anyone would like more specific code examples, I’d like to offer a few:

  1. Upgrading our RFC’s repo to use the latest version of mdbook
  2. Adding a history link to the RFCs
  3. A community published smart contract for Escrow transactions, complete with tests
  4. Switching Universe from npm to pnpm to improve security and harden it against supply chain attacks

Here are some code reviews I’ve performed for the community:

  1. @Plats changes to the website navigation
  2. @kinkajou 's confidential IRV smart contract work

I do hand-rolled artisanal code, in case that helps you judge quality here. Nothing against using AI for those who do so mindfully and find it helps them, it’s just not a good fit for how I like to work. Happy to work with AI review tools looking at my code, as well, as I find they’ve been very helpful as a first-pass check over things.

My goal is to focus primarily on the smaller repos like the website and the RFCs where the CCs with more direct Blockchain chops needn’t spend their time, but I also anticipate contributing here and there to the bigger repos as I find things to help with.

Fox is great, nothing but love for him. But I don’t think Council members should also hold CC positions. My reasons, briefly:

  1. Concentration of power, governing and electing shouldn’t sit with the same people
  2. Overlapping token allocations pooling into a small group
  3. Cleaner accountability when the two bodies stay separate

Voting no on this one. Nothing personal, just how I see the structure.
